When you have a bed bug concern but no visible signs, an independent K9 inspection can be a good first step for a possible early infestation. The Bed Bug Experts does not run its own dogs. Instead, we refer inspections to an independent third-party company that only inspects and does not sell treatment, helping keep the inspection unbiased. When a K9 inspection makes sense
A K9 inspection is most useful when you are concerned about a possible early infestation but have not found visible bed bugs or other clear signs. The EPA describes bed bug control as complex, and Virginia Cooperative Extension recommends checking bedding, furniture, and personal items. Those checks can help document what you have noticed before an inspection.
The independent company’s role is inspection only. It does not sell treatment, so the inspection is not tied to a recommendation to purchase a treatment from the inspector. We do not add claims about a dog, handler, capability, or accuracy that have not been provided.
What we see on the job
I start with what you have noticed: where the concern began, what you have checked, and whether there are visible signs to document. I explain that the K9 inspection is referred to an independent third-party company rather than performed by The Bed Bug Experts. That separation matters because the inspection company only inspects and does not sell treatment.
I also keep the next step clear. A positive result gives us a reason to discuss treatment for the confirmed bed bug concern. If bed bugs are confirmed, The Bed Bug Experts handles treatment, including heat treatment or Aprehend when the approach fits the situation. A negative result means the independent inspection did not confirm bed bugs; no treatment is sold through that inspection. If you still have concerns, call us to review what you observed and request a Free Quote.
After the inspection
If the result is positive, contact The Bed Bug Experts so we can discuss treatment options and the property-specific plan. If you are comparing approaches, signs of bed bugs, heat treatment, and Aprehend provide additional context. Aprehend may suit early infestations and patient customers; it takes 30–45 days, and some activity continues for a while.
If the result is negative, keep the inspection result with your notes and call if the concern continues or new signs appear. Do not use a total-release fogger as your only control method: the EPA explains that foggers may not reach hidden cracks and crevices, and Virginia Cooperative Extension cautions that bug bombs do not control infestations.
